Step Two: Self-Amplification

Self-amplification is triggered and starts an exponential increase in the signal.

At this point, a small concentration of free blue protease is present in the solution. Because the blue protease can cut the inhibitor of the blue complex, it sets off a chain reaction that amplifies the original signal exponentially. This rapid self-amplification is what allows Pro-CR technology to measure vanishingly small quantities of initiator molecules.
